Neat trick! I’ll definitely try it out in my next marquetry project.
Thanks,
Erik
Once you have your pce’s resawn, what is your process for removing the machine marks before using the veneer? They are probably to thin to go back thru the jointer or planer.
Thanks for the question Brett. I used to try running resawn veneers through a thickness planer – that’s an exercise in frustration and disappointment. Then I switched to using a bandsaw blade with carbide teeth ( I use the Lenox Trimaster), focused on making sure the bandsaw was well tuned, and now I use the veneers right off the bandsaw. The surface is plenty smooth enough to glue to a core material like plywood. No more of that awful “Snap, crackle, pop” that you hear when a planer turns a beautiful piece of figured veneer into crumbs!
